In town this weekend? Go to the market!
Stuck in town this weekend? It's high season at the Farmer's Market, produce is ripening, the sun is shining (or at least it is right now), and you can bet there will be tons of great people and tons of fresh, flavourful, and affordable food at the market! What's in season right now? Apples, apricots, blackberries, blueberries, nectarines, peaches, plums, tomatoes, beans, peas, cabbage, carrots, corn, cucumbers, peppers, potatoes, and summer squash for starters. Slow Food Vancouver has an excellent list of what's in season on their website.
Keep an eye out for my favorite vendors, including gourmet seasonings and dressings from Maison Cote, amazing (mainly vegan) truffles from Bad Girl Chocolates, The Granola King, and Bean Boy Homous.
Summer farmer's markets are ongoing through October and have tons of great stuff including produce, meats, cheese, bread, jams, and arts and crafts. Here is a list of Vancouver's farmers markets (more details like vendor schedules are available on the Your Local Farmers Market Society website, and for a list of farmer's markets throughout BC, check out The BC Association of Farmers' Markets website.
